Craig Calderwood, ‘Truck Nuts,’ 2015.

Craig Calderwood, Truck Nuts, 2015. Fabric and hair with ceramic and wood ball hitch.

We’re delighted to see a sculpture by Craig Calderwood included in the exhibition Queer Threads at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles.

With works dating from 1972 through 2023, this traveling exhibition is among the first to spotlight how contemporary artists are remixing fiber and textile traditions to explore LGBTQIA+ identities and experiences. Aiming to position queerness within the history of domestic crafts and fiber arts, the exhibition responds to the gender connotations, feminist herstories, cross-cultural intersections, and tactile experiences inherent to craft.

The exhibition will be on view through August 20, 2023.
