Enrique Chagoya, Histoire Naturelle des Espécies (Natural History of the Species): Illegal Alien’s Manuscript, 2008. Color lithograph, 11 x 74 1/2 inches.

Enrique Chagoya is included in a group exhibition at the Wadsworth Antheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, CT. Inspired by Zoe Leonard's 1992 text-based artwork 'I Want a President...,' Protest and Promise gathers artworks from the museum's permanent collection which address themes of protest and political unrest, dating from 1963 to 2019. Chagoya is represented in the exhibition by his 2008 codex Histoire Naturelle des Espécies (Natural History of the Species): Illegal Alien’s Manuscript.

Chagoya will give an online artist talk alongside art historian and critic Ruben Cordova, centered on his 2008 codex and how he uses visual language as a form of social critique. The talk will take place on Thursday, January 21, at 5pm EST. Register here.
