We’re delighted to see works by Craig Calderwood included in ‘Figure Telling: Contemporary Bay Area Figuration’ at the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art in Napa, CA.

The exhibition highlights a multigenerational group of six Bay Area artists who use the human figure to produce compelling works grounded in narrative, storytelling, and personal memory. Curator Katie Eilertsen states that “these artists use visual storytelling to convey their unique identities, histories, concerns, and compassions. In a world that is so often complex, they use human figures to tell stories – sometimes ugly and beautiful, always honest.” Craig’s work is heavily autobiographical and reflective of their experiences growing up as a queer and trans individual; their use of intricate patterns purposefully removes secondary sex characteristics, resulting in what they describe as “genderlessness.”

The exhibition will be up through September 17.
