William Beckman: Small Paintings
November – December 1989
In the Drawing Gallery

During November and December the Frumkin/Adams Gallery will show a group of recent oil paintings by William Beckman in the Drawing Gallery. These small works, frequently done in tandem with the large paintings, show the complicated process by which the large works evolve.

Included in the show will be the studies for the artist’s recent large-scale figure paintings as well as several landscapes. The work rangers from a 15 x 16 inch fully realized paintings on panel done from the model (an over-life-size version is currently in progress) to a minimal, two-color study for the background of Beckman’s “Woman and Man” of 1985-1988. In all there are nine panel paintings included in the exhibition.

The William Beckman exhibition will be on view in the Drawing Gallery during November and December. The Frumkin/Adams Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 to 6 and from 10 to 5:30 on Saturdays.
