Spectrum: New Work in Three Dimensions
April 5-April 30, 1988

During April the Frumkin/Adams Gallery will show a selection of works in three dimensions by gallery painters and sculptors. Included in the exhibition are: Robert Arneson, Luis Cruz Azaceta, Roy DeForest, Robert Hudson, Richard Shaw, James Surls, and Robert Warrens. Sculptor Mel Chin will also participate as an invited guest.

“Spectrum” was chosen as the title of the exhibition as so many of the works emphasize color relationships (in addition there is an astonishing variety of forms and materials): The new Robert Hudson openwork steel and rubber sculpture is vividly polychromed; the wooden DeForest table is painted in acrylics and has a lacquered top; Robert Warren’s landscape construction is also painted wood, with color handled in a very painterly fashion; Mel Chin uses materials as diverse as iron, bone, animal skin and wood in a work that is derived from Tibetan culture.
