New Paintings and Drawings
Apr 2 - Apr 30, 1992

Starting April 2nd, Philip Wofford will show a new group of paintings and drawings at the Frumkin/Adams Gallery. These works were inspired by the artist's trip last year to the Yucatan and are full of references to the light and color of that area as well as to the ancient Mayan culture. The titles of the paintings make clear the connection: Afternoon of the Inscriptions, Blood Calendar and Dawn Serpent among others.

The paintings in the current exhibition are built up, as usual, with modeling paste, but in addition are extensively collaged with rope, fabric and found objects. The large drawings on view are also elaborately collaged.

The Philip Wofford exhibition opens on April 2nd and continues through the 30th of the month.
