Realist Drawings
| | Oct 31 - Dec 10, 1981 |
For its November exhibition the Frumkin Gallery has assembled an important group of Realist drawings. The thesis of the exhibition relates to drawing's role in preparation and study and its central position in the Realist enterprise. The artists represented in the exhibition are Jack Beal, William Beckman (recently associated with the Frumkin Gallery), Paul Georges, Alfred Leslie, Philip Pearlstein, and James Valerio.
Each artist is represented by three or more drawings, principally of the figure. William Beckman, for example, is showing the very large (94 inches high) charcoal drawing which was the final study for his recent painting Diana IV at the Pennsylvania Academy's Realist exhibition. He is also represented by two smaller figure drawings and a preparatory drawing for a landscape. Alfred Leslie is also showing a very large new drawing of a seated nude as well as a number of recent figure drawings, Philip Pearlstein will show a new large figure composition in a new medium for him (conte crayon)“ as well as works in his more familiar media, sepia wash and pencil.
The exhibition makes clear the importance of, and the abiding interest in, drawing from the figure for all the artists involved.
The Realist Drawings exhibition will open on October 31st and run through December 10th. The Frumkin Gallery is open 10 to 6 Tuesday through Friday, and from 12 to 5:30 on Saturdays.
