Drawings (Drawing Gallery)

May 4 - Jun 1, 1985

During May the Frumkin Gallery will show a group of drawings Alberto Giacometti in the Drawing Gallery. While the show is a small one, it is particularly interesting as it covers the artist's entire creative career. The show begins with a landscape drawing of the Swiss mountains at Schiers done when Giacometti was 17 years old (1918), and ends with a large portrait drawing of James Lord executed two years before the artist's death in 1966.

The drawings on view include works from each decade of the artist's career and include a cubist-inspired figure drawing of 1923, a study of Sumerian sculpture in the British Museum of 1937 and characteristic drawings of the 1940s and 150s. There is a drawing of the 1950s of Nice, which is an unusual subject for the artist, as well as a studio interior of the same period.

The Giacometi drawing exhibition will open on May 4th and run into early June. The Frumkin Gallery is open from 10 to 6, Tuesday through Friday and from 12 to 5:30 on Saturday.
